Jam session pt. 3

Image
David and I got done another four songs and are getting close to the hour mark for our setlist. We got band stickers made this week by the dude who did all the decals for my car and such.

Sigur Ros

Image
Sigur Ros is an Icelandic postrock band started in 1994.  They’re considered one of the founding bands of this genre of music and are predominately known for Jonsi’s falsetto vocals, use of a bow on guitars, and using a non-sensical language for their lyrics.  https://sigurros.bandcamp.com/ Dad introduced them to me when I was 8 years old- we listened to ( ) —their “brackets” album 2002.  I remember sneaking computer time on the family Dell to watch their music videos on YouTube (like olsen olsen, svefn-g-englar, glosoli, and saeglopur).  My favorite albums of theirs are in this order- (), Takk, AB, kveikur (the concert we attended), valtari, ba-ba-tiki-dido, hvarf, med sud.

Meshuggah

Image
Meshuggah is a Swedish extreme/groove/ metal band that goes back as far as the late 80s. Their name actually is Yiddish for the word crazy.  Koloss, nothing, Obzen, and violent sleep of reason are my consistently-favorite albums of theirs.

Windhand | The Sword | Pallbearer

Image
Windhand is a doom/ stoner metal band from Richmond, VA.

Jam sessions pt 2

Image
What’s been goin on the past few weeks? We got a couple more songs by The Sword down pact with vocals and we feel pretty good about them.  I’m working on memorizing the last few minutes of Gnaw. David still trying to teach me how to do successful bends because if they’re even a tad bit flat, he loses his mind a bit lol. “YOU HAVE TO BEND IT MORE LIZZIE!”

God mother | Cult Leader | Joy | Generation of Vipers

Image
I’m putting these bands together because of similarity in sound and concert grouping, starting with Swedish hardcore/grindcore band, God Mother.

Art portfolio pt 2

Image
This is the second part of my art portfolio.

Art portfolio pt. 1

Image
All are originals by me unless I did a rendition of another artists (which would be listed). I don’t do digital art (don’t know how, so it’s all handpainted or made with broken vinyl records, nail polish, magazines from the 60s, beer labels—idk whatever I could find). But hey, now you have proof that one can technically claim drinking to be a hobby.

Thou | Mizmor| The Body | Full of Hell

Image
Why are the southern states so angry? Who knows…but what we DO know is that some great sludge metal bands have arisen out of the humidity and swamp lands, either fueled by hatred of New Orleans, or… but sludge isn’t only limited to the South.

Junius | Caspian | Rosetta band merch

Image
Caspian, Junius, and Rosetta were some of the bands on my green iPod i got on my 12/13th birthday. I had all the lyrics for Junius and Rosetta’s albums memorized.  For my 15th birthday, Dad gave me tickets for my first concert ever-    Caspian & Junius at the Local 506 in Raleigh, NC. It was a great concert.

Jam sessions #1

Image
This is an inside look of what band practice looks like during the week. We practice every night usually from 9-midnight.  David going strong on the DG cocktails.

Lamb of God

Image
Lamb of God is a heavy metal band started in 1994 under the original name of “Burn the Priest.” They’re from Richmond, VA.  Well, Randy is actually from Franklin, VA (crazy), but the band practiced in Richmond due to attending VCU.  I didn’t grow up listening to them as much, despite them being considered one of the big 4 of 2000s metal. I more so listened to A7x and SOAD; but, I started listening to lamb of god after meeting John and David.

Thrash: Municipal Waste & Iron Reagan

Image
No surprise here, John introduced David and I to thrash metal. When I think of thrash, I think of iron Reagan and municipal waste. It’s also cool they’re both from Richmond.

Math Rock Pt. 1: Giraffes? Giraffes! | TTNG

Image
Math rock is a genre that is known for immaculate and rhythmic looping- an overall clean sound (an early example would be King Crimson). Sometimes there are vocals, but usually* as background sound, with some exceptions.

Agoraphobic Nosebleed

Image
Agoraphobic nosebleed is a grindcore band from MA that was started in 1994. Scott Hull (pig destroyer and AxCx) is actually from Lynchburg, VA. Their singer Kat left in 2018. Jay used to be a part of one of my favorite postmetal bands Isis.

The Mylene Sheath record label

Image
The Mylene Sheath was a postrock record label that was started in 2007 by a husband/ wife duo. They signed alot of great bands like Caspian, Junius, Gifts from Enola, Giants, Jakob, If these trees could talk, Pelican- to name a few of my favorites… I’ve got band merch of those bands and I’ll list them in separate blog posts.

Deadhorse | Shy, Low | Giants

Image
Deadhorse is a postrock band from PA. They were one of the bands Dad put on my iPod when I turned 12. “We can create our own world” was one of my favorites. I used to draw the album art all the time when I was bored.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Image
I started listening to Godspeed around the age of 13. My birthday present from Dad that year was a green iPod nano (that I still have) preloaded with 8g of postrock and postmetal. Their albums on there:  F#A# infinity - whole album is good- obviously dead flag blues was great.

Orange Amp Key Holder | Mini Orange Crush 3w amp| Orange Amp | Gibson and orange amp miniatures | Orange Crush 35RT review

Image
Orange Amp stuff.

Neurosis band merch

Image
I love Neurosis and they actually cranked out a new album this year. The first album I listened to was Through Silver in Blood. They were pivotal in the post/doom metal scene, influencing a ton of bands (too many to list).

Eyehategod merch

Image
EHG is a great sludge metal band from LA and we’re currently learning several of their songs to play in our cover band. They were  also close with grindcore band AxCx.

Gibson Sg Silverburst 2012 and my guitar pedals

Image
I got my Gibson off Reverb in 2019 for around 750$. Bought the Gibson case separately and put Steven Rhodes stickers all over it.

Deadend Shrednecks Intro

Image
David and I formed the “Deadend Shrednecks” in March 2026 and got the idea because we live on a deadend street. We started this band in memory of John Berlin and is dedicated to him. We wanted to learn some of our favorite songs we all used to listen to together. We're hoping to bring some good memories to people, as a lot of the bands we listened to provided so many core memories to us.

Orange Amp Front Door

Image
This is how to paint your front door to look like an amp. I love my Orange Amp and had a brainwave to paint the front door to look like it. Good thing there’s no HOA in Surry.
